Sprout Packaging

The Sprout Citrus Seed package design takes its inspiration from the natural composition of orange, lemon, and lime peels. I wanted to mimic the shape of these fruits as well as their biodegradable nature and potential for regrowth.

The challenge was to create sturdy degradable packaging that could include a path to further information and instructions for planting these seed pods.

I settled on using colored, handmade compostable paper for the main citrus packaging and folded them into spherical shapes that attach at the top. Because the size of each pod was only about an inch tall, I made leaf-like folds to include the logo, barcode, and QR code instructions.

To better present this packaging, I created a cardboard stand with the branding on the front and sides to display the citrus pods

  • This packaging was inspired by the sustainability of using what is already available organically. Rather than contributing to any extra waste, my goal was to create a similarly environmentally friendly option for consumers.

  • Using recycled paper I had on hand, I created new papers to create the prototype shells.

  • To present the pod prototypes together, I decided to create a display that would showcase the logo and product marketing.

  • After assembling the main components, I created tags with a QR code for the customer to scan with instructions, and a barcode to scan at checkout.
