Misophonia Typography

Misophonia is a condition that causes reactions to certain noises. This typographical project is aimed to visually explain how misophonia feels through typography.

The challenge for this project was to communicate a feeling visually to those who do not experience it and to do so only with words. I aimed to use aggravating colors and typefaces to mimic a frustration towards a specific sound, and create a reaction at the end.

This panel explains what misophonia is with the intrinsic thought patterns that might arise in one that has it.

I wanted to share how overstimulating one noise could be by creating very little pattern and an irritating lack of empty space.

The parts of the word clearly communicate this condition which are emphasized here.

Sounds often create an explosive response, as shown with the “tap” sound overlapping the other panels.
