Neko Cat Cafe Poster Design

The NEKO Cat Cafe is a quarterly event aimed for students to destress before finals. The event coordinator requested an illustrated design that displayed the autumn season and the energy of the cafe space.

The challenge was to create a color palette and composition that could reflect that request, be eye catching to students, and include the necessary information in a balanced way.

The image on the left shows the main 24” x 36” poster size.

This event marketing required size variations of the illustration. I chose warm colors and avoided white to match the cozy aesthetic we were going for. I made a border to better emphasize the text and make the overall marketing less distracting. I used this particular sans serif for legibility, accessibility, and to minimize harsh lines

  • Beginning with quick concept sketches allows us to plan for general ideas before too much time is spent on drafts.

  • I then sketch a more detailed and accurate composition to show what the illustration will look like using one color.

  • At this stage I play with what colors will look like next to each other and develop the style more.

  • FinalIy, I rework my illustration for different marketing materials and switch to Illustrator to add typography, logos, and other elements.
